outpacing God's will

The Tragedy of Outpacing God's Will

“Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.” - James 1:2-4

Have you ever planted a seed and eagerly watched it, hoping it would sprout overnight? In our spiritual journey, we often find ourselves in a similar rush, wanting to see the fruits of our labor immediately. However, the truth is, that kingdom fruit always flows from a healthy root—our identity in Christ. Just as a tree needs time to grow strong roots before it can bear fruit, we need time to grow and stand firm in our identity.

God, in His wisdom, often uses waiting periods to affirm and strengthen who we are in Christ. These times may seem frustrating, but they are crucial. They’re like the silent growth of roots beneath the surface, unseen yet essential. During these periods, God molds us, teaching us patience and faithfulness. James 1:2-4 reminds us to count it all joy when we face trials because these trials build perseverance in us.

Imagine trying to run before learning to walk. We stumble, fall, and often find ourselves further from our destination than when we started. Similarly, if we rush through these waiting times, we might outpace God’s will. And when we do, life becomes more challenging. We miss out on the lessons meant to prepare us for the next step. We need to be able to stand firm in our new identity in Christ before we can walk in the everyday power of the Holy Spirit.

So, what happens when we align ourselves with God’s timing? We are not just standing; we are being prepared to move with purpose. This alignment allows God to work through us, ensuring that the fruit we produce is abundant and lasting.

Take a moment and reflect: Are you outpacing God’s will in your life? How can you get back in step with the Spirit?

Remember, the waiting is not a setback, but a setup for something greater. By trusting in God’s timing, you allow yourself to grow into the person He has called you to be, ready to walk in His power and purpose. Let’s embrace the wait, and let God’s perfect plan unfold in His perfect time.
